AGENCY Description

New York City Children's Center (NYCCC) functions within the NY State Office of Mental Health (OMH) and has 3 New York City (NYC) locations - Bronx, Queens and Brooklyn. We work with individuals aged 5 to 21 years and offer comprehensive services at all treatment levels. Our programs include inpatient, day-treatment, intensive day-treatment (IDT), behavioral health outpatient clinics, care coordination, crisis respite and academic tutoring and support. Children receiving treatment with us can move between programs as their needs change and they require less or more support. No one is turned away for their ability to pay for the services they receive.

Job Description

Licensed Master Social Workers 2 serve as members of interdisciplinary treatment teams providing the full range of social work services to individuals in a variety of settings. As a Social Worker 2, you would be required to handle more complex issues and to exercise a high level of independent professional judgment throughout the course of your activities.


This position is in the Brooklyn Behavioral Health Outpatient Clinic. The individual will serve as the primary therapist for a caseload of between 30 and 40 children. Work schedule includes Saturday and/or weekday evening hours. This clinic presently employs 5 full-time therapists, 3 full-time psychiatrists and one nurse. The environment is collegial, and all clinicians address client’s needs via a team approach. 

Job Responsibilities

Job responsibilities include providing psychotherapy services for a caseload of between 30 and 40 children and young adults. Individual, group and family modalities are all used depending on the individual needs of the client and their family. Routine assessments for suicidality, violence, substance use, and cultural considerations are also a responsibility in this position. Therapists develop Individual Service Plans (ISP) for each client on their caseload. ISPs lay out the client's goals and the proposed course of treatment to help them meet their goals. All services are documented in an electronic medical record system.

Job Qualifications

Candidates must be licensed in NY State and have at least one year of experience providing psychotherapy services. Other qualifications include:


§ Ability to manage a caseload of between 30 and 40 clients

§ Experience with various methods of conducting psychotherapy, i.e. CBT, DBT, trauma-focused

§ Ability to work with children exhibiting a higher degree of acuity

§ Desire to work in a collaborative environment

§ Desire to work in an environment sensitive to cultural and socio-economic impacts

§ Commitment to meeting the needs of an underserved population
