Our support comes in the forms of crisis intervention, individual and group trauma-focused therapy, legal advocacy, complementary therapy, psychiatric consultation, prevention training and community education


Job Description

Position Summary:

The clinician in this position provides trauma-focused individual therapy in both English and Spanish to adult survivors of sexual assault, domestic violence, childhood sexual abuse, gun violence and other forms of interpersonal violence, while also facilitating psychoeducational and process-oriented therapy groups. The role includes conducting intakes and psychosocial assessments, presenting cases in multidisciplinary staff meetings, maintaining accurate clinical records and offering crisis intervention, advocacy, and referrals across mental health, medical, legal and community systems. Additional responsibilities include delivering professional trainings on trauma-informed care, contributing to prevention, intervention and outreach initiatives for survivors of interpersonal violence, and supervising social work and/or mental health counseling interns as assigned. The clinician demonstrates a strong commitment to the philosophy, standards, and mission of the Crime Victims Treatment Center, Inc., with a particular focus on supporting Spanish-speaking survivors of violence.


A. Clinical Duties and Responsibilities:


  • Provide individual trauma-focused therapy to adult survivors of sexual assault, domestic violence, childhood sexual abuse, gun violence and other forms of interpersonal violence
  • Facilitate psychoeducation and process-oriented therapy groups for survivors of interpersonal violence
  • Conduct intake assessments for services, compose psychosocial evaluations and present new client cases at weekly clinical staff meetings
  • Maintain accurate, comprehensive client service records and provide clients with referrals as appropriate 
  • Provide culturally specific, trauma-informed care that is responsive to clients’                                 physical, psychosocial, educational, safety and related needs, tailored to each client’s individual and cultural context, with particular sensitivity to Spanish-speaking and immigrant survivors of violence
  • Provide crisis intervention and advocate for clients with mental health and community agencies, criminal justice and civil court systems, medical providers and other systems with which victims of crime may engage 
  • Conduct presentations to external service providers on trauma-focused therapy and crisis counseling with survivors of interpersonal violence
  • Assist in the development of intervention, prevention and outreach programs tailored for Spanish-speaking survivors of interpersonal violence, specifically childhood sexual abuse, sexual assault and domestic and intimate partnerviolence
  • Supervise social work and/or mental health counseling interns as assigned, providing guidance and oversight


B. Organizational Duties and Responsibilities:


  • Organize time effectively, balancing clinical, administrative, and organizational priorities
  • Maintain accurate and timely client documentation and statistics in accordance with CVTC policies
  • Uphold confidentiality standards and follow HIPAA and organizational policies
  • Participate in interdisciplinary meetings, case conferences, staff meetings, and performance improvement activities
  • Meet productivity, attendance, and timeliness standards for the role
  • Prepare materials for trainings, conferences, and staff development programs
  • Perform other duties as needed to support program and organizational goals

C. Educational/Professional Development:

  • Meet regulatory and licensure requirements 
  • Identify learning strengths and needs and assume responsibility for own learning by identifying and communicating problems and learning needs to supervisor 
  • Understand and adhere to the Social Work Code of Ethics and/or American Mental Health Counselors Association Code of Ethics
  • Observe principles of self-determination, confidentiality, and absence of prejudicial actions 
  • Participate in the professional development of other staff members 
  • Participate and assist in facilitation and teaching in annual training courses (e.g., volunteer advocate training, student intern seminars, Sexual Assault Forensic Evaluator training courses, etc.) 


D. Communication/Relationships:

  • Demonstrate a professional, courteous and respectful comportment in interactions with clients and colleagues, families and significant others 
  • Display courtesy, tact and patience during interactions with all members of affiliated agencies and extended community 
  • Anticipate, identify and alert supervisor of developing problems concerning clients and both internal and external systems 
  • Utilize supervisory suggestions and constructive feedback in an objective and positive manner 
  • Function in a consultative and educative capacity with all pertinent individuals or agencies who/which might impact clients 
  • Translate diagnostic and treatment concepts into clear, concise, and useful written records 

E. Skills/Experience Requirement:

  • Demonstrate sound judgment in independent decision-making
  • Knowledge of trauma psychodynamics and at least one trauma treatment model; strong understanding of victimization dynamics and experience engaging with systems serving crime victims
  • Strong English reading, writing, and verbal communication skills, with the ability to follow verbal and written instructions accurately
  • Verbal and written fluency in Spanish; ability to perform all clinical duties in required second language
  • Minimum one year of clinical experience in trauma focused psychotherapy which may be at the graduate internship level

F. Education Requirement:

  • MSW from a Graduate School of Social Work accredited by the Council on Social Work Education, Master’s degree from a license-qualifying Mental Health Counseling program, or equivalent 


G. License/Certification Requirement: 

  • Social work licensure or limited permit upon hire, licensure within one year of employment, or equivalent 
  • Completion of CVTC’s 40-hour NYS DOH Rape Crisis and Domestic Violence Volunteer Advocate Training within the first year of employment
